Jack's Story

October 17, 2018

The team at CHKD began caring for Jack even before he was born. After a prenatal ultrasound revealed several anomalies including enlarged kidneys, Jack’s parents were referred to CHKD.
Jack, now 6, was born with a genetic-neurological condition that caused some developmental delays as well as low muscle tone that impacts his balance and motor skills. He also has a metabolic disorder that affects his ability to maintain stable blood sugar when he is sick. Over the years, Jack has seen more than a dozen CHKD specialists and therapists, experienced four hospitalizations, and required several emergency department visits.
Today, Jack is doing great. He still comes to CHKD for follow-ups with his care team and he wears braces on his ankles to help with his stability–but that doesn’t slow him down. He is an energetic kid who likes playing outside, watching movies, and reading.
