Julian's Story

When Julian was a baby, his doctors discovered he had an enlarged liver and consistently low blood sugar levels. After numerous tests including a liver biopsy, Julian was diagnosed with glycogen storage disease, a condition in which a build-up of glycogen in the body’s cells can impair the function of the liver and muscles.  
To manage his condition, Julian’s blood sugar is checked several times a day, and he is on a closely monitored diet, which is supplied through a gastrostomy tube. Julian often needs a  wheelchair to help him get around since his muscles tire easily. 
Although he faces daily challenges, with the help of his family and CHKD care team, Julian is a joyful 6-year-old who is always smiling
