Olivia's Story

October 17, 2018

Jennifer Franklin experienced complications during her pregnancy that were potentially life-threatening for her and her unborn baby, Olivia. At 29 weeks gestation, Olivia was born by C-section, weighing just 1 pound, 14 ounces. As Jennifer recovered, Olivia was immediately taken to the neonatal intensive care unit at CHKD where a team was waiting to care for her.
During the first weeks of her life, Olivia needed constant support in order to breathe and underwent several surgeries. After 3 ½ months at CHKD, Olivia was finally able to leave the hospital and go home with her family. Today, she is an active toddler who loves Elmo, belly laughs, and coloring.
“I would encourage other NICU parents to take advantage of the support system CHKD provides,” says Olivia’s dad, Andrew. “The whole team at CHKD was amazing,” adds Jennifer. “It was so comforting to have them to lean on during this challenging time.”
