Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2013. Complications from the disease led to her needing a kidney transplant last summer. Her friend Francia Rasia donated the kidney.
In a new interview with W Magazine, Rasia revealed that there was a complication during the surgery that almost turned tragic for Gomez.
After the procedure, Franciasaid she woke up to a text message from Selena saying she was really scared. The message went on to explain that her kidney was very active, and when it turned she broke an artery.
"They had to take her (Selena) into emergency surgery and get a vein from her leg and build a new artery to keep my kidney in place,” Rasia told W. “She could have died."
Luckily, the procedure was successful. Selena and Francia are both doing well.
